Trip to Costa Rica in August 2016
Last August I went to Costa Rica. It was my second time. I really love this country. Nature is stunning and the people are great! My first time was in 2008 with other biology students. This time I was with my girlfriend. We both enjoyed the trip! You can find the complete story in words and photogra...

Great stuff, I love the diversity. To see chameleons in the wild would be amazing. The common reed frog is extremely handsome, what does the venter look like? Thanks for sharing, Nick Thank you! Yeah. I saw my first wild chameleon in Portugal last April. Now I love chameleons! :) It is one of the m...

Ria Formosa (Tavira, Portugal), late April 2015
During my holidays I did two trips. One with my girlfriend to Portugal (Tavira) and one with my friends to Spain (Sierra de Andújar). This report is about my six days trip to Tavira (Portugal). I really wanted to see the Common Chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon), so that was my only real herping goal....

[Borneo] Geckos and two frog IDs please
Last summer I went to Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak). I want to know the IDs of the animals I found. For some I think I found the ID, but I would like confirmation. For the snakes I already got great help here. I also got the IDs of most frogs, skinks and agamas. Some geckos and two frogs are still with...

Wow awesome trip! I love the Sumatran Pit Viper! :D Great photography :) What flash setup did you use? :) The Wallace’s Flying Frog was also one of my favorite frogs that I saw on Borneo. :) Did you handle the frog? I also experienced that the frog changed color from very bright green to dark green....

Re: Malaysia Summer 2014: Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak)+ Pulau Ti
I'm gonna sound like I'm nitpicking your IDs, but that bronzeback from tioman is Dendrelaphis cyanachloris - you can tell by the elongated head. Could potentially be a record for the island too, although I'm too lazy to go through the paper on herpetofauna of tioman. I'm sure you could find it onli...

Malaysia Summer 2014: Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak)+ Pulau Tioman
My first trip-report on this forum will be about my trip to Malaysia. I went there for 4 weeks and visited beautiful national parks on Borneo and I visited Pulau Tioman. It is a lot of work to proces and edit all the photos and write a report. My report is in smaller parts on my website. This was my...

Re: Borneo snake ID, please!!
For what it may be worth - it's a female, with 139 ventrals, and appears to have 17 or 19 midbody scale rows. Jeff I looked it up in the field guide of snakes of Borneo (Stuebing and Inger, 1999) and the Rhabdophis chysarga (Speckle-Bellied Keelback) is the only one of your options that fits the di...

Re: Convince me to buy a Canon EFS 100mm f/2.8 macro lens
A 100mm Macro is mandatory I don't use Canon, so I can just help you with the field of view and distance things.
For vipers you have the proper distance (at least 30cm) and you can make a nice blurry background.

Re: Borneo december 2013
Thanks Zimmerman! Every time of day has it's own set of active creatures. Frogs, toads, snakes and sleeping lizards I found mainly at night. Active lizards are around during the day and I found that many snakes(Dendrelaphis, Chrysopelea, Xenochrophis, Coelognatus) also like the early morning sun. G...

Re: Canon 300mm f4 vs 17-40
I own a 300 F4. It is very good for lizards. Especially the shy ones. But you can also make photographs of lizards with their natural behavior, because you are not too close. Most lizards tolerate you 1,5 or further away from them. A 300 F4 closest focussing distance is 1,5m (with rings even closer)...
