Re: Tejon Ranch Trips for 2017
It was freezing the night before, and remained in the low 50s most of the day. That said it was still fun to get out. Low elevation stuff included intergrade gopher, northern Pacific, coschwhip, 3 or 4 legless lizards, a few night lizards, and a ton of Gilberts skinks and Baja chorus frogs. After we...

Re: Finnish herpers return
Yep AZ is the place to be if you can get away. Still if you can't neos can be found in numbers. For me I need to slow way down to see them. Those little newborns probably want to feed to have a better chance to survive the over winter. To me it's not as cool as adults but it's better than late July ...

Pretty much a common thing is to chat with other herpers. Most of the experienced guys will stop and introduce themselves. That's what I have usually experienced. Nice finds. The boa looks pretty coastal what County is it from?

This is certainly a topic for another thread (sorry Nick and Robert), but you and I, Brian, are just a couple of old dinosaurs who loved the morphological taxonomy system. Robert - When are you going to give Nicolas his own account here on FHF, and on the HERP database? As far as I'm concerned, he has enough herping experience to pass for a forty year old! Yeah, good point, Steve. I think it's about time. I'll probably do it next year when Nicholas turns 50 ... eh .....

Re: My Best Herping Discovery
Despite the boa's tarnished appearance, San Gabriel Mtn boas are genetically linked more to L. t. gracile than to roseofusca. Stripes tend to disfigure with age, this boa may have had perfect, gracile stripes when smaller. Its stripes are pretty clear now, even for such a big, mature specimen. Will...

Very nice Robert, Danny L. and I have been working that area and also northwest of there as well. Orange speckling on the bellies is common, but usually has some dark as well. If that is near the tail then no dark is common at that point. Not a lot come from that area so it is really a special find....

Dark Atrox is possible, but young Atrox are so different. Perhaps a pet hybrid release. Another thought is photo shop, but if they have the snake then it's real. Whatever it is, it is a great find. Keep us posted.....
