Rusty - I took a few pics but they are buried, unprocessed on an external hard drive. Was there a particular reason you ask about the red rat? It was pretty typically patterned and colored.

Florida hot grand slam in 4.5 days
In April I took advantage of some unused vacation time, which my wife (sadly!) did not have to spare, to go on a brief and indulgent intensive herping holiday in Florida. Top targets were pine snakes, indigos and hognose and unfortunately I struck out on all of them. However, I did manage to find al...

Hi Bryce, my apologies if this comes too late, but for future reference...I probably wouldnt recommend the deep hole at Myakka - its a long way from your chosen area, the water is permanently murky and, while I dont think the risk is massive, there are just so many gators there (depending on the tim...

Most of the limited evidence suggests that chams do not have a major negative net impact on Florida's ecosystems and I can certainly understand your desire to have such incredible creatures on your property, but of course from an ecological/conservation/scientific perspective this is not the right w...

5 day trip to Morocco in October 2016

Morocco had long been a dream destination of mine having seen so many of the European herping community come back with great finds and st...

Re: Gecko ID
Many thanks once again. That does make sense as all the wild tokays I have seen have been from Thailand/peninsula Malaysia. Re: Gecko ID
Thanks Berkeley - is there any one thing that makes you sure of the ID? It bears very little similarity to tokays I have seen in terms of coloration as this is very drab and south east asian local tokays are all extremely colorful.
Gecko ID
Hi all, Not the best pictures but taken by my old man at his house in Sarasota. My best guess is a very drab looking Tokay as he says it is very large (approaching 12 inches) but I didnt think they had spread as far as this yet? https://farm1.staticflickr.com/699/23332155362_859e9f8e1b_o.jpg IMG_161...
