I used to do a reptile census there for the USFWS. The painted turtles are everywhere. Hit it up next month or so and you'll see snapping turtles all over, too. The biggest one I've ever seen in my life was at MNWR.

If you ever do get riled about about feathered reptiles, I'd suggest taking a ride to Montezuma NWR. It's about 35 mins from you and is a haven for raptors and probably 150 other bird species. Osprey, hawks, heron, and eagle's are quite common. Not bad for amphibian's, too.....

I don't have any problems with people keeping venomous, but I do think it needs to be strictly regulated in keeping and in selling. Thanks for sharing! I'm surprised you still have ice in the wooded areas. I'm not far from you and there's little to none. I heard last night was "productive" for some in Central and other parts of NY. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday should be very good around here next week.
