I will second La Tarde ecolodge. Fantastic place. Gary Kritzinger is also great, but he is now in South Africa. Miguel Jimenez in LaFortuna is also a wonderful guide. And Cesar Barrio Amoros who runs DOC FROG Adventures. Lastly, if you into amphibeans, Brian Kubicki at CRARC is the man to get in con...

Don't even ask how I found this thread five years after the fact - Those five snakes originally posted 1. Abyssus 3. Lutosus 4. Concolor 5. Viridis The interesting snake is 2 - to me the head says abyssus while the back half of the body looks like lutosus - Curious if that is a House Rock area snake?

Re: Herping NE Oklahoma in late July?
Road cruising can be pretty slow that time of year. Still, timbers and copperheads are common enough so that if you are willing to keep at it, you will eventually find a few. But it is apt to be cruising all night for a couple of snakes as opposed to cruising for a few hours for a dozen snakes.

July can be tough around here. When you have days on end with highs over 100 degrees, activity tends to be slow. Not saying you wont find anything, and if that's the one time you can come, so be it, but early may to mid June and late August to mid October are the best times here

There were some no swimming signs -- it was along a trail that starts by a waterfall and some rapids and further upstream the water widens and slows and the croc hangs out there.

Around arenal snakes we found included about two dozen schlegeli, several asper, two porthodium, two atropoides, a red tailed boa, cat eyes, northern tree snake, many many sibons, a coffee snake, three or four bird snakes . Interested to hear how you do at CRARC, I will be there Feb 13 and 14.
