The Bishop area can be unpredictable. I definitely wouldn't go there hoping to see anything but gopher snakes and panamint rattlesnakes. Garters can be had in the area, but even they can be tuff to find. The desert is the same way, but the earlier you can get there the better. I've had great nights ...

I don't know if "listing" with herpers will ever catch on like with birders, but entering data into the HERP database has revived my herping enthusiasm. I think one of the problems is that it can be very hard to find certain herps period. I've been herping for over 40 years and it wasn't u...

Keep the info coming. I've been thinking about this subject. A guy I met says he gets a lot of distracting light/glare on/off his hood with the roof mounted light bar. Hello everyone and thanks for wasting the next four minutes of your life reading this... ;) Two things: 1. How has your salamander hunting been for those of you in SoCal? Re: Question / Poll : How Far do you move herps from roads?
I agree with much of what's been said. A lot depends on the road/traffic and the type of herp. I seem to recall once or twice finding a snake as a DOR after I've seen it/helped it off the road/or watched it get off the road. If I recall correctly, it/they were rattlesnakes I encouraged to leave the ...

Looks like a "white-sided" bull snake. I don't keep up with all the fancy morphs, so what pastel, faded, hypo, blonde mutant it might be is uncertain to me. A google search turns up many closely matching images. Maybe some breeder dumped what they couldn't sell(???) to spice up the local g...

I'm not sure why, but it really seems I saw a lot fewer snakes last year. It may have been because most of my trips seemed to be timed with cold weather and or a full moon Especially in Mono county and Imperial county.
