Francis Marion Natl Forest north of Charleston would be a good spot to check out. There's some interesting spots around Honey Hill.

I'm not gonna hit the bookshelf at this late hour, but I've never heard of a Carolina water snake. Which means nothing, as I think of all water snakes as Natrix. But your critter is probably a banded water snake, and an attractive one. Of course the scale counters may have changed things, so I am ju...

This little aberrant cornsnake was collected by Jamie Sargent on a snake rescue call at a local hotel. It was about a mile from where I caught my zigzag female several years ago. Lousy pic, sorry, but it does show the anamoly in pattern. BTW, it had its first captive meal today, a $1.20 pinky! OUCH!...

Mike, as herp shows go, this was a pretty good one. Zillions of ball pythons and monocellate cobras.........every color in the rainbow...........and baby boa morphs galore. The obviously WC stuff was in the minority, but still annoying. I've got to say that this show far surpassed the Repticon event...

Get away from the city of MB and out into the boonies. West to Conway and beyond (Marion Co. has lots of good stuff) or south to Georgetown Co. I concur with Gerry on the possibiity of stress being a possible cause. Pines can be funny. I have never used a heat source, leaving mine at room temp, whatever that may be (local snakes). It's been 40 long years since my LAST venomous bite.
