Re: "Mildy Toxic Saliva"??
My anecdotal two cents: I was bitten by a smallish Eastern Gartersnake, it had me for about 15 seconds or so while I tried to remove it, and the next day the area around the bite was red and a bit swollen and I had a crappy headache. Maybe it was from the snakebite, maybe not. It lasted about a day ...

I did see that, but this guy has been bald for two years straight every time I see him, every season. He is always bald. He seems fine otherwise. Bald Cardinals
For two years, there has been a bald (no feathers on the head) male cardinal here at our birdfeeder. Now, this year there is a female who I think is the mate of the male. Does anybody know why this would be happening? Lots of other birds eat from this feeder and I have seen no other bald birds around.

I apologise if I came off as whining in my first post. I re-read it, and I don't think I really expressed my sentiments right. It's the trash I find that really gets me down. All good advice, and I thank you for the responses. I feel like it's not so much "trophy hunting" as a desire for variety. I guess part of it is also all the pollution, trash, and graffiti I see at some of the places I go. Honestly, it really bums me out and sometimes I just have no desire...

I feel somewhat as if I have hit a wall with my herping. I don't really get to cover a large area, so I pretty much see the same things over and over and over again. Nothing against gartersnakes, watersnakes, ringnecks, and the occasional milksnake, but that seems to be all I can find. I would reall...

Just my (nearly literal) two cents: I have only found two E. Hognoses, one played dead after just picking it up, looking at it, and putting it back down. The other one hooded, but did not play dead at all, didn't really seem to mind being handled as far as I could tell. Very calm and docile. That is...

We (my wife and I) went camping in Delaware last weekend. I flipped a Black Racer and Black Ratsnake (and a toad) under one piece of AC. I saw my first N. Leopard frog and my first S. Ringneck. I am curious, will the quake have herps on the move? It seems like it might be a good time for roadcruising. This is an interesting topic.
