Re: introducing a king snake population...
TS, one thing to remember is that if kingsnakes are found in your area, they probably already ARE there and you have just not seen them. And, for all we know, could already be dining on these other snakes all the time. You've just never seen it because you are only there a few hours a year. Point be...

Re: introducing a king snake population...
Relocating the rattlesnakes and copperheads carries roughly the same results as introducing the kingsnakes would--you may feel good about what you're doing, but it really doesn't achieve the desired effect. Yes, kingsnakes are known to eat venomous snakes; however, those snakes do not make up their...

Kenya Safari 2011: Token herps, many mammals...
Last July, my wife and I participated in a 10-day safari to the country of Kenya, in East Africa. We were accompanied by my mother-in-law (still a world traveler at age 70...) and a friend of my wife's, who has done lots of traveling with her. The Big Meadow hike is a very scenic one. Don't have the photo scanned but I found some old Native American morteros there, once.
Make sure to stop in the little store and buy one of those wilderness pass-thingies for the windshield. It's a beautiful area, good luck with your hike.

Interesting observations, Paul. Thanks for sharing. The next question is, "What is unique about zonata biology that allows only them to become symptomatic?". It is puzzling because Lampropeltis is so genetically plastic, you would think whatever this is could jump ship easily, so to speak.
