I'm personally a big fan of your photos Alex. I'm a sucker for creative lighting and it's a breath a fresh air from all the "bleh" herp shots you see nowadays. Keep it up dude

Thx for the info... I love skinks and the idea of one adapted to life in sand is way cool. only saw some small brown ones, on my one herping excursion through that general area... although I did find a Tx horned Lizard on the Isle of Palms, which was a surprize. Great shots, two pines in a day seems like a good haul. Any shots of the other species you found? I can wait to get down to the pine barrens one of these days. No shots of the king or racer. Good photos. I wonder if those pines like to hiss like the bulls and gophers. On another note, I also went from NC to MD a few years back, before starting grad studies. I've since left but I found the herping in MD to be fun, despite the general over-crowdedness of the state. If you get a chance, h...

I recently made my second trip to the NJ Pine Barrens after moving to MD a month ago. While it is nothing like NC in terms of herp diversity/density, I am starting to fall in love with the area. Nikon dropped the ball bigtime with the D600. I had mine and I was getting major oil spots 100 clicks into it...ended up returning it after bitching with Nikon. Cleaning the sensor won't help the issue, as the shutter mechanism will continue to leak oil. I now have a D610 (D600 but with an upgraded ...

Jeff Beane believes the NC population has been extirpated by house cats. I think Wayne Fidler found what he thought was horned lizard tracks upon a fire ant mound in one of the subdivisions that used to have horned lizards about 4 years ago? Don't hold me to that though
